Kaduna governor reinstates chief of Piriga chiefdom, fulfills court order
DDM News

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reinstated the Paramount Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, Jonathan Zamuna, following a court ruling that nullified his removal by the previous administration.
From the information available to the media, Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the reinstatement brings an end to the months-long leadership vacuum in the chiefdom caused by his dethronement.
Jonathan Zamuna, who was removed as the head of the Piriga Chiefdom on May 22, 2023, by former governor Nasir El-Rufai, was dethroned just days before the end of El-Rufai’s administration.
The decision sparked controversy in the chiefdom and beyond, with critics describing it as politically motivated.
Zamuna’s removal was seen as part of a broader trend of using political power to influence traditional institutions, further dividing the Piriga Chiefdom.
The dethronement of Zamuna disrupted the chiefdom’s leadership, creating tensions within the community.
Many residents and stakeholders argued that the action was unjust and failed to respect the cultural and historical significance of the chiefdom.
Zamuna, known for his firm stance on community issues, was believed to have been targeted for his position on matters that conflicted with the policies of the El-Rufai administration.
Governor Uba Sani, upon assuming office, vowed to prioritize justice and fairness in governance.
Acting in line with the court’s judgment, the governor reinstated Zamuna as the Paramount Chief of Piriga Chiefdom, ensuring stability within the traditional system.
The decision has been lauded as a step toward restoring confidence in traditional leadership and respecting judicial processes.
The reinstatement of Zamuna has brought relief to the Piriga Chiefdom, which had faced months of uncertainty and division.
His return is expected to foster unity and development within the chiefdom, as well as reinforce the independence of traditional institutions in Kaduna State.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has dismissed criticisms from Nasir El-Rufai’s son, who recently attacked Governor Sani’s leadership over the reinstatement.
The government maintained that its actions were guided by the rule of law and the need to respect judicial decisions.
