Kano court stops Sanusi from resuming as Emir; we won’t obey court order —Gov’t

The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has said that he will not obey the Court order stopping Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II from resuming office as the Emir of Kano.
Governor Yusuf made the remarks during an interview on Arise News TV on Friday, May 24, 2024.
The Federal High Court sitting in Kano had ordered the Governor not to issue a certificate of recognition to Sanusi.
Speaking during an interview through his media aide, Mr. Sanusi Bature, Yusuf said the court order has been overtaken by events.
Bature also disclosed that, as a matter of fact, Sanusi will be presented with a Certificate of Return by the Governor.
The event, he said, is slated by 10 AM, Friday morning, suggesting that the event may already be going on at the moment of this publication.

It could be recalled that the former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in a similar fashion, also denigrated a court order involving Sanusi.
The court had barred Ganduje from issues appointment letters to Emirs of the new Emirates he created in 2019.
The former governor, Ganduje, however, went ahead and presented letters of appointment to the new Emirs, defying a court order restraining him to do so.
In a statement, Mr. Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ganduje, claimed that the governor did not receive any court order restraining him from further action concerning “the newly appointed emirs of Rano, Karaye, Gaye and Bichi Emirates.”
