Kano sacks aides over drug baron bail, palliative theft

(DDM) – The Kano State Government has dismissed two senior aides over their roles in a controversial drug baron’s bail and the diversion of palliative grains.

DDM gathered that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the immediate sack after receiving the findings of investigative committees probing the separate misconduct cases.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to the statement, Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilization, was indicted for masterminding the bail of a notorious drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

The investigative committee confirmed Sharada’s involvement through his own sworn testimony.

Governor Yusuf directed that Sharada hand over all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs, on or before close of work on Monday, August 11, 2025.

He was further warned not to parade himself as a public officer under the current administration.

In a separate case, the Governor also relieved Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant in the Cabinet Office, of his appointment.

Roba’s dismissal followed his arrest for rebagging palliative grains in 2024 at a warehouse in Sharada.

He has since been arraigned in court on charges of theft and criminal conspiracy for allegedly diverting public assets.

The government’s letter instructed Roba to return all official items, including his ID card, by the same Monday deadline.

Like Sharada, he was also cautioned against presenting himself as a serving government official.

In a related decision, Hon. Musa Ado Tsamiya, Special Adviser on Drainages, was cleared of all allegations after the investigative committee affirmed his innocence.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that his administration remains committed to discipline, transparency, and a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.

He stressed that all public officials must uphold the highest standards of integrity both in public service and in their private lives.

The Governor warned that similar breaches of trust will attract swift and decisive action without favoritism.

The state government advised the public not to engage the dismissed aides on any matter related to official business.

According to the statement, anyone who does so will be acting at their own risk.

The decision has been viewed as a strong message to political appointees in Kano about the consequences of misconduct.

Observers say the move could bolster the administration’s anti-corruption stance ahead of future political contests.

For now, the political landscape in Kano is abuzz with reactions to the Governor’s uncompromising approach to governance.
