Kano State Police Command cracks down on thuggery, arrests 20 suspects

The Kano State Police Command in Nigeria has launched a successful crackdown on thuggery in the state, arresting 20 suspects and recovering a cache of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.
The operation, which took place between January 1-3, 2025, was part of the command’s efforts to tackle the menace of thuggery, known locally as “Daba”, in Kano State.
According to police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the operation resulted in the recovery of 19 knives, three pointed irons, one hand saw, one pair of scissors, and two clubs.
In addition, police also seized six parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 12 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, and 31 sachets of diazepam.
The police command has commended the public for their support and cooperation during the operation and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
The command has also been engaging with community leaders and residents to gather feedback and suggestions on how to improve security and safety in the state.
This community-centered approach has led to the implementation of initiatives such as community policing forums, neighborhood watch programs, and youth engagement programs.
