Nigerian businessman Keji Giwa has shared a personal account of the circumstances surrounding the death of his father, describing the experience as one of the most painful moments of his life.
Speaking during a recent interview on the “Outside the Box” platform, Giwa explained that his father was travelling to the United Kingdom for what he described as a yearly family tradition when the incident occurred.
According to him, the trip had appeared routine, and he had spoken with his father shortly before the journey.
“He was on his way to the UK, as a yearly thing he celebrates with us. We’ve spoken, he’s on his way. Next thing I know, he’s not at the airport,” Giwa said during the interview. “It took a while before they called me, and when they finally did, I was told my dad was dead.”
Giwa stated that he was later informed that his father died as a result of suspected food poisoning. He, however, expressed the view that the condition should not have been fatal if timely and adequate medical intervention had been available.
He further alleged that when his father was taken to a hospital on a Sunday, there were no available qualified doctors to attend to him at the time of the emergency.
“What happened? Food poisoning. On that day he was taken to the hospital, it was a Sunday,” he said. “He shouldn’t be dead. It’s ordinary food poisoning, but he died because all the qualified doctors were in church on a Sunday.”
Giwa said the incident had a lasting emotional impact on him and influenced his perspective on life and religion, particularly as it occurred during a period when he and his father were strengthening their relationship.
The businessman did not provide further details regarding the hospital or the medical response involved in the incident.
