Kidnapped Mother of Taraba Deputy Governor Rescued

The kidnapped mother of the deputy governor of Taraba state, Haruna Manu Hajiya Belli Manu has been freed from her abductors.

The kidnapped mother of the deputy governor of Taraba state, Haruna Manu Hajiya Belli Manu has been freed from her abductors.

It was not clear whether any ransom was paid despite a ransom demand of N300million by her abductors.

An anonymous source told Elombah.com the she was released following an onslaught launched by security operatives.

According to the source, the operatives, a combined team of police and vigilante groups lunched into the middle of a deep bush in Jalingo where they suspected she was held.

They, there and then, attacked the abductors and rescued the fear-stricken woman.

Our source, however, did not say whether there were casualties from either side.

While in captivity, the old woman had appealed to her children, on phone, to meet the demands of her captors to secure her freedom.

Hajiya Belli Manu was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen at about 9.30pm on Monday at her residence in Bakin Kasuwa area of Mutum Biyu town, 70 kilometres from Jalingo, the state capital.

The kidnappers, said to be about ten, killed a middle aged man outside the family house before taking the woman away.

The rescued woman is currently in Abuja recuperating from the trauma acquired while the kidnap lasted.
