Niger State, Nigeria – A daring kidnapping operation in Suleja, Niger State, was thwarted early Friday morning, leaving the victim critically injured.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the incident occurred in the Polosa area of Suleja, near Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and involved suspected kidnappers who attacked a residential home.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Samuel John, was forcefully abducted from his home in the pre-dawn hours, according to a report by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter).

Makama revealed that the attackers stormed John’s residence and whisked him into the bush under the cover of darkness.

However, the abduction attempt was quickly noticed by a vigilant member of a local security group who raised the alarm, prompting immediate action.

Responding swiftly, officers from the Nigeria Police Force attached to ‘B’ Division in Suleja collaborated with local vigilantes to initiate a pursuit of the kidnappers.

The rescue team reportedly tracked the suspects into a nearby forested area, catching up with them before they could get far.

According to the report, upon realizing that the security team was closing in, the kidnappers brutally turned on their captive.

The attackers used machetes to inflict serious injuries on the victim, delivering deep cuts to his head and hands before fleeing the scene.

Samuel John was left bleeding in the bush, but the joint rescue team quickly reached him and evacuated him for emergency medical attention.

He was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Suleja, where he is now receiving treatment for his injuries.

The police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the status of the investigation or whether any arrests have been made.

However, community members and security observers have praised the quick intervention by both the police and the local vigilantes, saying it likely saved the victim’s life.

Kidnapping has become a recurring threat in Niger State and surrounding regions, often targeting unsuspecting residents for ransom.

The Suleja incident is yet another example of the increasing boldness of criminal elements operating along the Abuja-Niger axis.

Security experts have repeatedly called for better coordination between state security forces and local vigilante outfits, particularly in semi-rural communities vulnerable to attacks.

The role of vigilantes in this particular rescue underscores the growing importance of community-based security networks.

Polosa residents say the area has witnessed a rise in criminal activity in recent months, raising fears of more violent crimes if urgent action is not taken.

Many have also urged the state government to invest more in intelligence gathering and emergency response systems.

As of the time of this report, the victim is said to be in stable condition, but recovering from significant trauma.

The Suleja Police Division is expected to intensify patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent future incidents.

Meanwhile, locals are demanding a permanent security presence in known flashpoints like Polosa and its environs.

The attack comes amid broader concerns about the deteriorating security situation in many parts of Nigeria, particularly in the North-Central zone.

Observers say the government’s promises of improved safety have yet to reflect on the ground, especially in vulnerable communities.

While Samuel John survived the ordeal, his case adds to the growing list of Nigerian citizens who have faced violence at the hands of armed kidnappers.

The general public is being urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security post.

Security analysts say Suleja, given its proximity to Abuja, must not be allowed to become a safe haven for criminal gangs.

Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are reportedly ongoing, with police combing the surrounding forest regions for clues.

Community leaders have pledged to support the authorities in tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

As the search continues, Nigerians are once again reminded of the pressing need for structural reforms in the country’s security architecture.
