The Kremlin has said Ukraine is “paying the price” for attacks carried out against Russia in recent months, as Moscow continues to strike targets in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the comment on Monday while responding to questions about whether Ukrainian attacks had affected Russia’s position on peace talks.
“Ukraine will have to pay a price for the actions that have taken place in recent months. This is what is happening now. Our armed forces are continuing the special military operation,” Peskov said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Moscow was ready to resume negotiations with Kyiv after Russia’s parliamentary elections.
However, he accused Ukraine of carrying out a major attack on Moscow during the elections and targeting polling stations.
Putin also referred to a Ukrainian drone attack on St Petersburg during a major economic forum in June.
He said Russia’s proposals for ending the more than four-year conflict remained on the table, but added that Moscow needed to consider what was in its own interests.
