President Muhammadu Buhari has, on Thursday, received the preliminary report of the investigation into the attack on Kuje Correctional Center, Abuja

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this while addressing journalists after a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) in Abuja.

Speaking, Aregbesola said the report indicted officials whose action or inaction led to that unfortunate incident, adding that the indicted officials will be punished.

He said: “A preliminary report on what happened in Kuje has been sent to the President but a more detailed comprehensive report will come at the end of the investigation.

“We have identified all those whose action or inaction led to that unfortunate incident and those who have shacked their responsibility will have to face the consequences of their action.”

Mr Aregbesola said sufficient efforts were made by intelligence agencies to forestall the attack on the prison.

However, he noted, there was a problem with the will to carry out instructions by security operatives.

It could be recalled that heavily armed bandits attacked the Kuje prison facility early July.

Consequent upon the attack, over 800 prison inmates escaped, including over 60 Boko Haram suspects.
