Kwara correspondents’ chapel election: Manifesto session holds Friday ahead Saturday vote

 

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, will on Friday, October 31, 2025, hold a manifesto presentation for candidates vying for various positions in its forthcoming chapel election.

 

The event, scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Chapel Secretariat, is part of activities lined up for the implementation of the chapel’s 2025 election timetable.

 

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the 2025 Credentials Committee, Hammed Shittu, and the Secretary, Unar Abdulwahab, the committee announced that the election proper will hold on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11 a.m., and will be preceded by a brief Chapel Congress at 10 a.m.

 

According to the statement, candidates who scaled through the screening exercise conducted by the Credentials Committee have been cleared to contest in accordance with the provisions of the NUJ Constitution.

 

They include Azeez Abiola Y., cleared for the position of Chairman and returned unopposed; Ibrahim Alege, cleared for Vice Chairman and also unopposed; Olufemi Akobi and Mosunmola Ayobami, cleared for the position of Secretary; Ogunniyi Taiye Joseph and Oluseyi Dasilva, cleared for Auditor; Afusat Agunbiade Oladipo, cleared for Treasurer and returned unopposed; and Sikirat Shehu, cleared for Financial Secretary and also unopposed.

 

The committee assured members of a credible and transparent election process that would reflect the ideals of the union, while urging full participation in both the manifesto presentation and the voting exercise.

In continuation of the implementation of the 2025 election timetable, candidates vying for various positions in the forthcoming Correspondents’ Chapel election will on Friday, October 31, 2025, present their manifestos to members at the Chapel Secretariat by 3 p.m.

 

According to a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the 2025 Credentials Committee, Hammed Shittu, and the Secretary, Umar Abdulwahab, the manifesto presentation is part of the democratic process ahead of the chapel’s election scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11 a.m.

 

The exercise will be preceded by a brief Chapel Congress fixed for 10 a.m. prompt.

 

The statement further announced that following a successful screening exercise, several candidates have been cleared to contest in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Constitution.

 

Those cleared include Azeez Abiola who is contesting for the position of Chairman and returned unopposed; Ibrahim Alege for Vice Chairman, also unopposed; Olufemi Akobi and Mosunmola Ayobami for the position of Secretary; Ogunniyi Taiye Joseph and Oluseyi Dasilva for Auditor; Afusat Agunbiade Oladipo for Treasurer, unopposed; and Sikirat Shehu for Financial Secretary, also returned unopposed.

 

The committee assured members of a transparent and credible election process and urged them to participate actively in both the manifesto presentation and the voting exercise, emphasizing that the conduct of the polls will reflect the ideals and democratic values of the NUJ.
