A devastating fire outbreak occurred at the Lafia Modern Market in Nasarawa State on Thursday night, December 5, 2024.

The fire gutted a section of the market, resulting in significant losses for traders.

Governor Abdullahi Sule visited the scene of the fire outbreak on Friday, December 6, 2024.

During his visit, the Governor assessed the extent of the damage and commiserated with the affected traders ¹.

Thanking God that the incident was limited to only a small part of the market, Governor Sule promised necessary government support to the traders.

He also assured that measures will be taken to avert future recurrences of such incidents.

The cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown, but sources suggest that it may be related to a generator explosion while being refueled.

The fire was eventually contained by firefighters and sympathizers, limiting the extent of the damage.

The Nasarawa State Government has pledged to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of the fire outbreak.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Humanitarian Service and NGOs, Princess Margaret Elayo, ensured that there would be accountability and transparency in the allocation of aid to the affected traders.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of markets in the state.

Traders have called on the government to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
