Lagos, Nigeria – To actively strengthen transportation safety and efficiency, Lagos State Police Commissioner CP Olohundare Jimoh visited Transportation Commissioner Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi on April 24, 2025.
During their meeting at the Ministry of Transportation, both leaders prioritized enhanced collaboration to address urban mobility challenges.
CP Jimoh explicitly pledged full police support for the ministry’s safety initiatives, stating, “We will deploy strategic patrols and rapid response units to safeguard commuters.”
He further emphasized leveraging technology, such as AI-powered surveillance, to combat traffic-related crimes.
Simultaneously, Mr. Osiyemi outlined plans for dedicated transit corridors and nighttime security escorts for transport workers.
Additionally, the dialogue underscored transportation safety as a catalyst for economic growth.
By reducing gridlock through coordinated traffic management, the partnership aims to boost productivity for businesses reliant on logistics.
For instance, perishable goods transporters currently lose ₦12 billion monthly to delays, a figure both commissioners vowed to halve by 2026.
In response, Mr. Osiyemi praised the police’s proactive stance, noting, “Security integration is pivotal for our smart city blueprint.”
He cited recent drone-assisted accident investigations as proof of tech-driven synergy.
The leaders also agreed to launch public awareness campaigns about emergency hotlines and crowd-reporting apps starting June 2025.
Consequently, this collaboration establishes a framework for quarterly joint task force meetings and real-time data sharing between traffic cameras and police databases.
Future phases include equipping 500 buses with panic buttons directly linked to police stations by late 2025.
As Africa’s largest city grapples with a 3.2% annual population surge, such partnerships exemplify adaptive governance.
By merging enforcement with infrastructure innovation, Lagos positions itself to mitigate accidents, which decreased 18% in pilot zones last year, while fostering investor confidence in its $250 billion economy.
Ultimately, sustained teamwork will determine how swiftly the megacity achieves its vision of stress-free mobility for 28 million residents.
