Lagos taskforce raids Gowon Estate, arrests 19 over drug-related crimes
DDM News

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has intensified its crackdown on criminal activity with a recent operation targeting Gowon Estate and surrounding areas.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that 19 suspects were apprehended during the raid, which uncovered significant quantities of illegal drugs.
The substances included Colorado, Indian hemp, narcotics, and other prohibited items.
According to officials, taskforce operatives discovered multiple bags of hard drugs hidden in the boots of parked cars, exposing the extent of organized criminal activity in the area.
These findings have raised serious concerns about the safety of the community and the growing sophistication of street-level drug networks.
Chief Superintendent of Police Adetayo Akerele, chairman of the taskforce, emphasized the agency’s resolve to rid Lagos of criminal elements, especially ahead of the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
He reiterated that such periods often attract an upsurge in unlawful activities, necessitating proactive enforcement measures.
“This operation reaffirms our zero-tolerance stance on criminality and our commitment to protecting the safety of all Lagos residents,” Akerele stated.
He further explained that the latest operation is part of a broader and sustained crackdown on drug trafficking and environmental offenses across the state.
The Gowon Estate raid marks the fifth major operation in an ongoing enforcement campaign aimed at restoring law and order in identified hotspots.
Akerele urged members of the public to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through the government’s “See Something, Say Something” initiative.
He noted that community engagement is crucial to achieving long-term security goals.
“Our mission is to make Lagos a secure, orderly, and livable city.
We call on all residents to remain vigilant and cooperative,” he added.
The arrested suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
