(DDM) – Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has drawn attention after photos showed him visiting the family of a late supporter.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the images were shared on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, by Yunusa Tanko, a close aide to Obi and a key figure in the Obidient Movement, via his official X handle.
The pictures revealed Obi surrounded by a large crowd at the residence of the deceased, where he reportedly paid a condolence visit.
Tanko praised Obi for what he described as a continued display of empathy and humility, stressing that such acts distinguish him as a leader with human feelings. In his words, Obi’s presence was a mark of “concern for the bereaved irrespective of status in society.”
The post immediately triggered reactions online, with many social media users commending Obi’s action, while others debated the significance of such visits in Nigeria’s heated political environment.
Some commenters hailed Obi for “always standing with the people,” while others questioned whether the condolence gesture was also aimed at reinforcing political loyalty among his support base.
The Obidient Movement, largely made up of young Nigerians, has consistently highlighted Obi’s accessibility and compassion as reasons for its loyalty, especially after the 2023 presidential contest.
Public sympathy for bereaved families, especially when expressed by political figures, has long carried weight in Nigerian politics, often shaping perceptions of leaders as either distant or connected to ordinary citizens.
Obi’s visit, therefore, has not only drawn condolences for the family of the deceased but also rekindled discussions on empathy, leadership, and the role of politicians in showing solidarity beyond campaign seasons.
