Lawmakers Review 46 Proposals for New States, 117 LGAs

The House of Representatives Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution has confirmed the receipt of 46 formal proposals for the creation of new states, alongside 117 requests for the creation of new local government areas (LGAs) from various parts of the country.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM), below is the complete and corrected list of proposed states as released by the committee:


North East

  1. Savannah State – from Borno
  2. Kwararafa State – from Taraba
  3. Katagum State – from Bauchi
  4. Amana State – from Adamawa
  5. South Sardauna State – from Taraba
  6. Muri State – from Taraba

North West

  1. Gurara State – from Kaduna
  2. New Kaduna State – from Kaduna
  3. Hadejia State – from Jigawa
  4. Gobir State – from Sokoto
  5. Kainji State – from Kebbi and Niger
  6. Tiga State – from Kano
  7. Ghari State – from Kano

North Central

  1. Edu State – from Niger
  2. Okun State – from Kogi
  3. Okura State – from Kogi
  4. South Plateau State – from Plateau
  5. Lowland State – from Plateau
  6. Plateau State (new) – a new carve from the existing Plateau State
  7. New Kogi State – from Kogi, Nasarawa, and Edo
  8. Ifesowapo State – from Kwara
  9. Abuja State – from the FCT
  10. Apa State – from Benue
  11. Apa-Agba State – from Benue
  12. Ayatutu State – from Benue

South East

  1. Orashi State – from Anambra, Imo, and Rivers
  2. Orlu State – from the South East zone
  3. Anioma State – from the South East zone
  4. Etiti State – from the South East zone
  5. Aba State – from the South East zone
  6. Adada State – from Enugu

  1. Atlantic City State – from Rivers

  1. Ijebu State – from Ogun
