Lizzo Says Shift From Radio to Streaming Has Affected Her Fanbase Growth

Share this:

American singer and rapper Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has spoken about changes in her fanbase, attributing the shift to the evolution of the music industry from radio dominance to digital streaming platforms.

Lizzo made the clarification while responding to a fan on X (formerly Twitter), who suggested that her fanbase had declined over the past two years.

In her response, the Grammy-winning artist explained that she was originally a “radio darling,” meaning much of her early audience discovered her music through radio airplay rather than streaming platforms or curated digital playlists.

She noted that the shift in how people consume music has significantly affected artists like herself, whose popularity initially grew through traditional broadcast systems.

Lizzo added that the transition from radio to streaming has changed audience engagement patterns, leading to fluctuations in visibility and fan reach for many established musicians.

Her remarks highlight the broader transformation in the global music industry, where digital platforms now play a dominant role in shaping artist discovery and fan growth.
