Popular Nigerian streamer and TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has come under intense criticism after comments he made during a family visit sparked debate online.
The incident reportedly occurred during a livestream in Ikorodu, where Peller visited his father and extended family alongside his fiancée, Jarvis, as part of their pre-wedding activities.
During the visit, a younger paternal half-sister approached him in a warm welcome, but his response quickly drew attention on social media. Peller stated that he does not consider children born outside his mother as his siblings, although he acknowledged the girl as his father’s child and part of his extended family.
His remarks immediately went viral, triggering mixed reactions across social platforms. While some supporters defended his personal definition of family boundaries, many others described the comments as insensitive and unnecessary.
Critics argued that his position contradicts Yoruba cultural values, where family relationships are often viewed broadly beyond just maternal or nuclear definitions.
One user, @_praedita, wrote that the statement could emotionally harm the young girl involved, adding that such sentiments should not be publicly expressed.
Another user, @okafor_nna54678, criticised the comment as inappropriate given the family context, while urging public figures not to let fame influence their behaviour.
However, some commenters defended Peller, suggesting that his perspective may stem from experiences in a complex family structure. They argued that individuals in polygamous homes sometimes set emotional boundaries for personal or financial reasons.
The incident has continued to generate discussion online, with many weighing in on family values, cultural expectations, and the pressures of public life.
