Magu ‘s confirmation tears Senate apart, as Red Chamber denies Ndume

Crisis has hit the Red Chamber over failure to Screen and ‎confirm the Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as Senate tackled leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume saying the leader only spoke for himself at the Presidential Villa.

Ndume had on Monday told the state house correspondent that Senate has not rejected the anti-graft boss as substantive chairman of the commission.

‎But, addressing journalists, Senate spokesman, Abdulahi Sabi stated that Magu has been rejected by the Senate and his nomination has been returned to President Buhari for further action.

According to him, our votes and proceeding indicated that Magu nomination has been rejected and it has been returned President Buhari for further action.‎

‎He said, “Votes and proceedings are the official records of what transpired in chamber.

“I briefed you on Thursday to the effect that the senate is announcing that in view of security reports we were unable to confirm Magu.

“We then rejected and returned the nomination to Buhari for further action.

“Media reports emerging especially from interviews granted by Sen. Ndume meant we have to clarify issues.

“For the records, I am the official spokesman of the senate and I intend to discharge this with honour and integrity because the sanctity of the institution is crucial to the sustenance of democracy.

“To clarify, I have only one point of reference, which is, the votes and proceedings.

“The senate also deliberated on EFFC with regard to security report available but referred the other nominees for screening since nothing much was found about them.

“This is the only official position of the senate. What I say, I say on behalf of the senate. Nigerians should be guided. There is no ambiguity in what we said.

“Senate is an institution and we are working with the Constitution and whatever rules we use, our powers are drawn from the constitution.

“We also want the media to be guided in the matter because of some misleading news in the public domain.”

It could be recalled that last week Thursday there was a fight between Senator Ndume and Senator Dino Melaye over Magu’s confirmation at the Senate President before it spilled over to Red Chamber entrance.

While Ndume demanded for screening of Magu in open session, Melaye who is one Saraki’s boys in the Senate insisted Magu should not be screened.
