Major General Mutkut takes command of MNJTF

Major General Godwin Mutkut officially assumed command as the new Force Commander (FC) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) on January 23, 2025.

The handover ceremony occurred at the MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad.

Major General Mutkut takes over from Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, who notably improved regional security and counterterrorism efforts around Lake Chad Basin.

During his first address, Major General Mutkut expressed gratitude to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and member states for their confidence.

Moreover, he committed himself to enhancing the achievements of his predecessors while furthering the MNJTF’s mission to promote peace and stability in the area.

“I am honored to take on this responsibility and committed to working closely with all stakeholders,” Major General Mutkut stated.

He emphasized the need to consolidate gains and address evolving security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin.

Outgoing Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali congratulated his successor and expressed confidence in his leadership.

He highlighted Major General Mutkut’s vast operational experience, specifically noting past roles like Commander of Sector 3 MNJTF and General Officer Commanding 8 Division in the Nigerian Army.

Furthermore, Major General Godwin Mutkut is indeed a distinguished senior officer within the Nigerian Army, noted for outstanding leadership and significant operational expertise.

He has commanded the 8 Division, playing a key role in combating terrorism and banditry in North West Nigeria.

His appointment reflects the commitment of MNJTF member states to ensure capable leadership in tackling complex security challenges.
