Man arrested for dismembering 13-yr-old girl’s body

Police in Ogun State has apprehended a man simply identified as Ogedain Mustapha, for allegedly dismembering the body of a 13-year-old girl in Sagamu Local Government Area.

The suspect was taken into custody in the early hours of Friday while attempting to dispose of the dismembered remains near Igbosoro River in Igode village.

The victim, identified as Oriyomi Adegboyega, was wrapped in a mat when found.

In a statement by the spokesman of command in Ogun State, Omolola Odutola, the arrest of Mustapha followed a tip-off from a sister security agency.

Also, three other individuals were detained for their involvement in digging a grave.

The mother of the deceased, Peace Adegboyega, had earlier informed the police that her daughter died from electrocution on Thursday morning.

She expressed shock upon learning that her neighbour, Mustapha, had been found with her daughter’s mutilated body, as arrangements for the burial were already in progress.

Meanwhile, during a search of Mustapha’s residence, two English pump-action rifles and various local charms were discovered.

Odutola explained that vigilante operatives, acting on intelligence, trailed Mustapha’s movements to the riverbank, where they caught him attempting to discard the corpse.

Upon inspection, they found that the girl’s hands had been amputated.

Although Mustapha denied involvement in the mutilation, he allegedly admitted to carrying the deceased’s body at the request of her father, Sunday Adegboyega, who reportedly asked for help burying her far from home.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and potential prosecution.
