Akwa Ibom police arrested Victor Okoh, 42, for allegedly killing his wife, Victoria, with a machete in Oron LGA.
Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson DSP Timfon John linked the crime to marital infidelity claims during Wednesday’s briefing in Uyo.
Authorities continue probing the case as community members demand justice for the brutal domestic violence incident.
According to the statement, officers responded to a distress call from concerned neighbors at approximately 5:20 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the lifeless and mutilated body of the victim outside the couple’s home.
The police recovered the machete believed to have been used in the attack and documented the crime scene with photographs.
The victim’s body was subsequently transported to the General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, the suspect attempted to evade arrest by hiding in the ceiling but was eventually captured by law enforcement officers.
Condemning the act, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police CP Baba Mohammed Azare assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that justice will be served.
He also used the opportunity to denounce domestic violence, urging residents to seek lawful and non-violent means of resolving disputes.
“We strongly condemn this heinous act and assure the public that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring justice is done. Domestic violence is a grave issue, and we urge everyone to report such cases promptly,” CP Azare stated.
The police have called on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities as investigations into the case continue.
