Manchester City could face a points deduction of up to 100 points if found guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reviled that the club has dominated English football in recent years but is now under intense scrutiny for alleged financial rule violations.

The long-running investigation is nearing a verdict, and the outcome could have severe consequences for Manchester City.

Manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged the situation earlier this month, saying a decision is expected soon.

On February 7, Guardiola stated, “In one month, I think there will be a verdict and the sentence.”

His comments have fueled speculation regarding the severity of potential sanctions against the club.

Independent commission holds power to impose severe sanctions

An independent commission heard the case between September and December last year and has unlimited authority to determine penalties.

If Manchester City are found guilty, possible sanctions could include a significant points deduction, title stripping, or even relegation.

The club faces 130 alleged breaches of financial fair play (FFP) regulations spanning multiple years.

Comparisons with Everton, Nottingham Forest, and Juventus

The Premier League has already demonstrated its willingness to enforce financial regulations by punishing other clubs.

Last season, Everton and Nottingham Forest were penalized for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

Everton received an eight-point deduction, while Nottingham Forest was docked four points.

However, these infractions were minor compared to the scale of Manchester City’s alleged violations.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire addressed City’s potential punishment on the Tear Us Apart podcast.

“It has to be a points deduction—if found guilty,” Maguire stated.

He suggested that City could face a points deduction between 60 and 100 points.

Maguire also warned that a guilty verdict could force major leadership changes at the club.

“The board of directors at Manchester City would effectively be proven to be liars,” he said.

“I don’t see how they can keep their jobs.”

The situation is similar to Juventus’ financial scandal, where the club’s entire board resigned before receiving a 15-point deduction.

The penalty was later reduced to 10 points, but it significantly impacted their season.

City’s board under scrutiny

If found guilty, Manchester City’s board of directors will face immense pressure.

The current board includes Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Martin Edelman, Simon Pearce, John MacBeath, Alberto Galassi, and Abdulla Khouri.

A ruling against City could result in major boardroom changes, similar to what happened at Juventus.

In Juventus’ case, President Andrea Agnelli and Vice-President Pavel Nedved were forced to step down.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Manchester City strongly deny all charges

The club maintains that it has complied with all financial regulations and insists the case against them is unfounded.

What would a 100-point deduction mean for Manchester City?

A 100-point deduction would be the harshest punishment in English football history.

Such a severe penalty would almost certainly lead to City’s relegation from the Premier League.

It would also wipe out their dominance in English football and alter the league’s competitive landscape.

Another potential consequence is the stripping of past Premier League titles.

This would create significant controversy and affect how past seasons are remembered.

If City’s titles are revoked, the league’s records may be retroactively adjusted, impacting rival clubs.

A verdict that could reshape the Premier League

With the final decision expected soon, football fans are waiting to see how this historic case unfolds.

If Manchester City are found guilty, it could set a new precedent for financial rule enforcement in football.

The case may lead to stricter financial regulations and harsher penalties for future violations.

Regardless of the outcome, this investigation will be remembered as one of the most significant financial cases in football history.
