Reports about the alleged return of SARS have sparked outrage across Nigeria.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reviled that the news spread rapidly, igniting heated debates among citizens.

Many Nigerians took to social media to express their concerns and frustrations.

The memories of SARS’ brutality are still fresh in the minds of many.

Some people recalled being harassed, extorted, and even tortured by the disbanded unit.

Others demanded immediate answers from the government regarding the controversial reports.

The fear of a possible SARS return has created widespread anxiety.

Many Nigerians see this as a betrayal of the #EndSARS movement.

Citizens who protested against SARS in 2020 believe their efforts might be in vain.

But one critical question remains—is SARS truly back?

Police react: SARS is gone, or is it?

The Nigeria Police Force has denied reports of SARS’ return.

In a statement released on Monday, the force dismissed the claims.

The statement, titled “DISCLAIMER: SARS REMAINS DISSOLVED – FPRO”, was signed by ACP Muyiwa Adejobi.

He stated that SARS, which was disbanded on October 11, 2020, remains dissolved.

The police insisted that there are no plans to bring back SARS.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to debunk circulating rumors,” ACP Adejobi stated.

He described the reports as false and misleading information.

He urged Nigerians to disregard claims about SARS’ reformation.

However, many citizens are skeptical about the police statement.

Some believe the government could be making secret moves.

Misinformation or strategic denial?

Despite the police denial, many Nigerians remain unconvinced.

The government has a history of making controversial decisions without public consultation.

Some believe SARS officers have been absorbed into other tactical units.

Others claim the government might be testing public reaction before making a move.

There have been unconfirmed reports of police units acting in ways similar to SARS.

“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation,” the statement emphasized.

But several activists insist that similar units still function like SARS.

The Special Tactical Squad (STS) and Intelligence Response Team (IRT) are often mentioned.

Critics argue that these units continue SARS’ notorious practices under different names.

Several Nigerians have reported encounters with officers who behave like SARS operatives.

These suspicions have fueled more distrust between the people and the police.

Police urge Nigerians to ‘verify’ information

The police have urged citizens to verify news sources before reacting.

They claim that misleading information can create unnecessary panic.

“To ensure receiving accurate and reliable updates, follow our official handles,” ACP Adejobi stated.

Nigerians were directed to follow @PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.

The police emphasized the importance of getting news from official sources.

But many Nigerians have questioned the credibility of police information.

Some believe the police deliberately suppress vital details from the public.

Others fear SARS officers have been secretly reassigned to active policing roles.

There is a general belief that the government is not being transparent.

This has caused many Nigerians to remain on high alert.

Nigerians are not forgetting #EndSARS

The #EndSARS protests of 2020 were Nigeria’s largest youth-led movement.

Thousands of Nigerians took to the streets demanding SARS’ dissolution.

The protests were driven by anger over years of police brutality.

The unit was accused of extortion, harassment, and extrajudicial killings.

Following massive protests, the government announced SARS’ official disbandment.

The decision was seen as a victory for young Nigerians.

But many now fear that the government may be reversing that decision.

For many Nigerians, the pain of that struggle remains fresh.

This explains the strong reactions to reports about SARS‘ return.

Many citizens believe their government is not listening to them.

Activists have vowed to resist any attempt to revive SARS.

While the police continue denying the claims, public trust remains broken.

Nigerians have made it clear that they will not accept SARS in any form.

Until Nigerians seereal changes, fear of SARS’ return will persist.

The people are watching closely and will not hesitate to react again.
