The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Adebayo Simon Adewale, has withdrawn from the August 15 Osun State governorship election and declared support for Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Adewale announced his withdrawal at a press conference on Thursday, saying the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, supporters and other stakeholders.
He said his decision was not influenced by pressure or personal interest but was based on his desire to put the interest of Osun State above his personal ambition.
According to him, after assessing the political situation in the state, he believes Adeleke deserves another term to consolidate the achievements of his administration.
Adewale subsequently urged APM members and his supporters across the state to vote for Adeleke in Saturday’s election.
The development comes two days before the poll, with Adeleke of the Accord Party, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC and Najeem Salaam of the ADC among the major contenders.
