Man Stabbed to Death Over ₦25,000 Debt in Ogun

A dispute over a ₦25,000 debt has turned deadly in Agbado area of Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State, leaving one man dead and another in police custody.

The suspect, identified as Opeyemi Olaniyan, was arrested for allegedly stabbing Ayomide Oyekunle during a violent altercation at a beer parlour.

According to police reports, the incident occurred when the suspect visited the location to demand repayment of a ₦25,000 debt owed to him.

When he did not receive an immediate response, the situation escalated into a confrontation.

Witnesses said the suspect became aggressive, broke a bottle, and threatened those present. In the course of the altercation, he allegedly used the broken bottle to stab the victim in the hand and stomach.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment but later died from his injuries.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect has been taken into custody, while the victim’s body has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.

Authorities also disclosed that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The incident has sparked concern over rising cases of violent disputes, particularly over minor financial disagreements
