Mass security futile; our people will protect their votes – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the APC Government  can deploy as many  security  agents as they want for the rerun elections, but the vigilant  people  of the  state  will courageously  protect their votes and mandate.

He stated that the immediate  past  governor of  the state sold state assets for $310million  (three hundred  and ten million  United States dollars), pocketed the entire proceeds for which he has been  indicted.

Addressing thousands of  PDP  faithful in Abua/Odual Local Government Area during  a special thanksgiving  service  to commemorate his Supreme Court victory,  Governor  Wike  accused the  APC  Federal Government of playing  politics with security  of lives and property  in Rivers State.

He said  over the last nine months, the APC Federal  Government  has redeployed  three police commissioners in the  state  with the heads of other security  agencies  juggled frequently  to ensure that they don’t have a grasp of  the  security  on ground.

According  to  him,  ahead of  the  rerun elections, the APC Federal  Government  has embarked on mass security  transfers. He noted that pliant security  operatives  have been  deployed  with directives to rig the elections.

He declared: “They can bring  as much security  personnel  into the state as they wish, but the people will protect their votes. We will never go back to the era of darkness when Rivers resources  are stolen to fund external political  activities.”

On security in the state, Governor  Wike  stated that  he has provided logistics  support to all security  agencies  for them to tackle cult-related  violence  in  different  communities.  He said several  cultists  have been  arrested by different  security  agencies in the state  ,  with most of  them facing  prosecution.

He said  the  fact that APC  leaders claim the corpses of victims  of  cultism  prove the security  information  that the party is sponsoring cult related  violence  in  the  state.

“By always claiming victims  of  cultism,  the APC  has exposed to the world the fact that they are sponsors of cultism and violence “, he said.

On the  completion of  abandoned  projects,  Governor  Wike  said  that  he is committed  to  ensuring  that  finances of the state are not wasted.

He noted that his administration  has completed and initiated new projects across the key urban centres in line with  the  need to revive decaying infrastructure.

Governor Wike, however,  said that his administration  will  not  complete  the  monorail project because  it is  relevant to  the  state.

He said since  peace has returned  to  Abua/Odual Local Government Area his administration  will  commence  the construction  of  roads and rehabilitation  of  schools  in the area.

Also speaking,  PDP House of Representatives candidate  for Abua/Odual/Ahoada-East constituency, Mrs Betty Apiafi  commended Governor  Wike  for his outstanding  achievements  which have lifted the  living standards of the people.

At the palace  of  the Traditional Ruler of Abua/Odual Local Government Area, King Kaleh Obuge, Oda  Abuan of Abua,  blessed Governor Wike  for his commitment  to  the development of the state.
