Merciless Man Utd Pound Southampton 9-0

Published

on

Manchester United equalled the Premier League record by putting nine goals past nine man Southampton.

A red card for Saints’ Alexandre Jankewitz after only two minutes into the game instigated a complete breakdown for the visitors, who were on the end of the same scoreline against Leicester City in October 2019.

This is the third time a team has lost 9-0 in the Premier League, with United also beating Ipswich Town by that margin in 1995.

The hosts mercilessly punished the Saints with goals from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Daniel James, as well as an Anthony Martial double and a Jan Bednarek own goal.

Man Utd dominated the ball from minute one all the way through to minute 90.

Although many football pundits had largely attributed the dominance to the early red card.

United tripled the number of passes Southampton made and had a staggering 55 touches inside the opposition penalty box.

24 shots in total for the Reds, 14 of those on target.

And for the Saints, three yellow cards, two red cards, three shots in total, ONE of those on target
