Modu Sheriff arrested by EFCC

It seems that the problems of former interim national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff are far from over.

The former chairman is presently in Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) premises to answer some questions.

Mr. Modu Sheriff is being questioned over some slush funds emanating from the Peoples Democratic Party campaign resources.

It could be recalled that on Monday, he invaded the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, declaring that his term as chairman of the party would end in 2018.

A source at the anti-graft agency confirmed this to TheCable on Wednesday.

“Yes it is true, the EFCC in Borno state has invited Ali Modu Sheriff,” he said.

This is the second time in June that Sheriff will be dealing with the EFCC.

He was earlier queried in connection with alleged misappropriation of parts of the N300 billion Borno state received from the federation account while he was governor between 2003 and 2011.

In addition to his woes, on May 21, the national working committee (NWC) of the Sheriff-led PDP was dissolved at a national convention in Port Harcourt.

Following the dissolution of the NWC, a caretaker committee chaired by Ahmed Makarfi, former governor of Kaduna state, was set up to lead the party temporarily‎.

But Sheriff has refused to recognise the new leadership, maintaining that he is still the national chairman of the party.

Then, on Tuesday, PDP rejected Modu Sheriff, accusing him of working for the All Progressives Congress [APC].
