Moghalu leads grassroots charge

With the November 8 Anambra gubernatorial election fast approaching, the Labour Party’s candidate, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, has called on party mobilizers to elevate their efforts and lead a historic grassroots movement that could reshape the state’s political future.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Labour Party Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI) coordinators for Anambra South, held at Omeke Hall, Ekwulobia, Moghalu emphasized the urgency and significance of their mission.
“We are not here for ceremony; we are here for serious business,” Moghalu declared, addressing a packed hall of coordinators and party faithful.
“This is not just my campaign—it is our collective project. Take it personally. Own it.”
The LP flagbearer praised the dedication and energy of the DMI team, describing their role as the engine room of the campaign.
“We’ve seen your work, and we are truly grateful,” he said.
“Now is the time to double down.
“Your mission is clear: mobilize, educate, and bring the people out to vote. Anambra has over two million registered voters, but only about 300,000 participated in the last election. That must change.”
Moghalu made it clear that boosting voter turnout is not just about numbers, it is about reclaiming the people’s voice.
“This is about a movement,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd.
“It’s not enough to be passionate online; we must translate that passion to real political action at the grassroots level.
“We must meet the people where they are—markets, churches, schools, homes, and let them know this election is for all of us.”
Crucially, Moghalu tied the Anambra governorship race to the larger national vision of Labour Party’s national leader, Mr. Peter Obi, whose 2023 presidential bid electrified millions across Nigeria, especially young voters.
“As Peter Obi prepares for 2027, we must deliver Anambra in 2025,” Moghalu said.
“This election is not just for me, it’s for Peter Obi, for the Labour Party, and for a better Nigeria.
“The presidential race begins with this governorship election.”
He encouraged unity, discipline, and relentless engagement from his campaign team, asserting that political power is earned through consistent groundwork, not noise.
“I don’t believe in empty numbers. I believe in quality mobilization,” he said. “We are enough to win if we are strategic, consistent, and united.”
The LP candidate also spotlighted the critical role of women in driving political transformation.
“There is no future without women. No woman, no nation,” Moghalu said. “Women are not just supporters—they are leaders, mobilizers, decision-makers. We are fully behind you, and we will support you to succeed.”
State DMI Coordinator, Chief Nnamdi Paul Igboeli, echoed Moghalu’s charge with passion and clarity.
“We are not waiting for miracles,” he said.
“We are on the ground, house-to-house, ward-to-ward.
“Our goal is simple: elect Chief George Moghalu as the next governor of Anambra State. We will not rest until that mission is accomplished.”
The event drew a notable crowd of Labour Party stakeholders and leaders, including:
- Hon. Chuma Nzeribe, the party’s Anambra South senatorial aspirant;
- Hon. Ugochukwu Emeh, State Chairman of Labour Party; and,
- Rev. Christian Orajekwe, Deputy Chairman for Anambra South.
Their presence signaled strong internal cohesion and strategic alignment as the campaign accelerates.
Observers say the Labour Party’s grassroots machinery, energized by the enduring influence of Peter Obi and the growing hunger for credible leadership, has become a potent force in Anambra politics.
With Moghalu’s candidacy gaining traction, and the DMI set to operate across all local governments, the campaign appears primed for serious momentum.
As Moghalu concluded his remarks, his message to the crowd was clear and simple:
“This is our moment. Let’s go out and make history.”
