Mohbad DNA Dispute Deepens as Father Rejects Court’s Lab Decision

The ongoing legal battle surrounding the paternity of Liam Aloba, son of late singer Mohbad, has taken another intense turn as his father, Joseph Aloba, continues to challenge the process set by the court.

At a recent sitting in Lagos, the Magistrate Court attempted to address concerns about fairness by proposing that a neutral and undisclosed independent laboratory handle the DNA test. The decision was aimed at eliminating bias and ensuring that no party could influence the outcome. However, rather than resolving tensions, the move has sparked fresh disagreement.

Joseph Aloba firmly rejected the arrangement, arguing that a “secret” lab raises more questions than answers. He expressed concern over transparency, insisting that he cannot trust a process where the identity and credibility of the testing facility remain unknown to the parties involved.

His stance appears to be influenced by previous developments in the case, particularly the toxicology report conducted after Mohbad’s death, which authorities described as inconclusive. For the grieving father, that outcome has heightened skepticism about official procedures and reinforced his demand for a more open and verifiable process.

In response, he has called for the right to conduct a parallel DNA test through a private pathologist of his choosing. His legal team argues that this request is only fair, especially amid claims that Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, may have already carried out a private DNA test without publicly releasing the results. They maintain that allowing both sides to independently verify findings could help restore confidence in the outcome.

The case continues to attract widespread public attention, as it ties into the larger unresolved questions surrounding Mohbad’s death in September 2023 a tragedy that sparked national and international calls for justice. For many observers, the paternity dispute has become another layer in an already complex and emotionally charged situation.

Legal experts note that the court now faces a delicate decision: whether to uphold its plan for a single independent test or allow multiple tests to proceed simultaneously. Either way, the ruling will likely shape public perception of the case and influence how future disputes of this nature are handled.

As proceedings continue, the central issue remains not just the outcome of the DNA test, but the credibility of the process itself. With emotions still high and trust in question, all eyes remain on the court to determine the next step in a case that continues to unfold under intense public scrutiny.
