Mother’s summit 2016: Obiano assures on women welfare
Chuks Collins, Awka – The administration of Gov Willie Obiano has embarked on a deliberate plan for the promotion of the welfare of women as key stakeholders
in the state’s affairs
This was disclosed weekend by the governor at the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Mothers’ Summit which he declared open in Awka.
Gov Obiano assured that irrespective of the biting macro economic crunch his administration has not and will not renege on any of its commitment towards enthroning a new lease of life for women in the state.
Some of the policies, according to him included the upgrading of health centres across the state to meet the challenges of Maternal and Child healthcare delivery, the two billion naira ASBA/CBN agric/business expansion loan of which sixty percent is designated for women/women cooperatives, amongst others.
In a press statement from Kingsley Ezekwelu, one of the governor’s media aides, the Anambra state government has repositioned and increased the agriculture sector participation through export initiatives that now earns huge regular foreign exchange for active participants and the state.
Consequently he urged more women to come together as cooperatives groups to enable them benefit from Government’s largesse to farmers in the state.
On the family, the governor bemoaned the rising spate of cultism in the society, and urged mothers to pay more attention to their roles in the family as it affects the children upbringing children, so as to imbue them with sound moral values and education that would benefit the families and the society.
Gov Obiano urged them to utilize the Summit to find solutions to numerous challenges facing mothers in the contemporary society.
Earlier, the Wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, the convener of the annual summit, acknowledged that the state is blessed to have in Governor Obiano, a man who understands and believes in the capability of women, adding that his motivation has been instrumental towards the successes of her Caring Family Enhancement (CAFE) initiative.
