On April 5, 2025, George Muoghalu emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.

Previously serving as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Muoghalu aims to secure victory.

His candidacy reflects the party’s commitment to strong leadership in the region, promising to address relevant issues.

Scheduled for November 8, 2025, this election marks a significant moment in the state’s political landscape.

During the primary election held at Finotel Hotel in Awka, Muoghalu secured an impressive 575 votes.

The process was notable for its transparency and orderliness, closely monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Labour Party’s electoral team.

Delegates exhibited remarkable discipline throughout the accreditation, voting, sorting, and counting stages.

Interestingly, his sole rival, John Nwosu, who had announced his withdrawal earlier that day, still received nineteen votes during the exercise.

This outcome highlights the complexities within the party’s dynamics.

In his heartfelt victory speech, Muoghalu expressed deep gratitude to the Labour Party for their trust in him.

He assured party members and supporters that he would meet their expectations, emphasizing that this moment is pivotal for Anambra State.

“The time has come to build a prosperous and inclusive state,” he passionately stated, promising to prioritize development and unity if elected.

Looking ahead, Muoghalu plans to challenge the incumbent governor, Charles Soludo, who returned unopposed in the primary election. He received over 300 votes during the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election held the same day.
