Musk’s Starlink to launch in India through Airtel

An Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel, has on Tuesday March 11, 2025, signed a deal with Elon Musk’s Starlink communication.

Airtel highlighted that, this agreement will enable Musk to provide the U.S. satellite internet services to customers in Indian.

According to the Indian Time News (ITN), this statement follows after the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Elon Musk in Washington, where they discussed space, technology, and innovation.

Recall that in 2022, Musk’s company made its first moves to enter the country, the world’s second-largest internet market after China.

Earlier,  Associate Press News (APN), reported that, Musk decisions have been delayed due to regulatory challenges, including security and privacy issues, service pricing, and lobbying from local competitors.

Airtel is said to be the second largest telecom operator in India.

He added that his agreement with Musk Starlink, will greatly depend on government approval.

Musk’s Starlink has at least 6,900 active satellites orbiting Earth that provide low-latency broadband, including to areas where the internet previously has been unavailable.

Starlink will complement and enhance Airtel’s suite of products to ensure reliable and affordable broadband for our Indian customers wherever they live and work,” said Gopal Vittal, managing director and vice chairman, Bharti Airtel.

In a statement made by the President and chief operating officer of SpaceX, Gwynne Shotwell he said:

We are excited to work with Airtel and unlock the transformative impact Starlink can bring to the people of India. We are constantly amazed by the incredible and inspiring things that people, businesses and organizations do when they are connected via Starlink.”
