The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out airstrikes on a terrorist hideout in the Sambisa Forest, killing several fighters and destroying their camp.
The strikes were launched on Wednesday following intelligence gathered after recent attacks in Borno State, including the ambush that killed two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force along the Damboa axis.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said in a statement that the operation was conducted after days of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions tracking terrorist movements around the Sambisa general area.
According to him, persistent ISR coverage revealed suspicious activities and active terrorist structures at a location identified as Arra, prompting an intelligence-driven strike.
“NAF air assets acquired and engaged the designated objectives through coordinated and successive passes,” the statement read.
Ejodame added that the airstrikes achieved their aim, resulting in the destruction of the targeted hideout and a significant weakening of the terrorists’ operational capabilities.
He noted that the operation disrupted the group’s command chain and logistics networks, marking another step in ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist cells across the North-East.
The latest air operation follows a renewed wave of military offensives in the region aimed at countering insurgent attacks and restoring security in affected communities.
