The destruction exercise took place at the Moniya dump site in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

At the event, Yedunni Adenuga represented Prof. Adeyeye, stressing NAFDAC’s commitment.

The operation was part of a broader crackdown on counterfeit drugs in major open drug markets across the country, including Idumota in Lagos, Onitsha in Anambra State, Ariara in Abia State, and Ezeuku.

Over 1,000 Military, Police, and DSS personnel conducted a coordinated operation after NSA authorization. The exercise focused on joint security protocols.

Authorities deployed personnel nationwide to bolster safety measures. Training emphasized intelligence-sharing and rapid response strategies during critical scenarios.

The destroyed products included a variety of expired, falsified, controlled, unregistered, and banned medicines.

Prof. Adeyeye confirmed authorities arrested multiple suspects during a three-week operation. Investigations continue to prosecute responsible parties.

Additionally, she revealed raids uncovered improperly stored vaccines and medical supplies, raising safety concerns.

“We seized compromised vaccines to protect public health,” she stated, stressing maternal and child care safeguards.

Prof. Adeyeye called on all stakeholders, including community leaders, health practitioners, religious groups, and members of the press, to join hands with NAFDAC in the fight against counterfeit drugs.

“NAFDAC cannot do it alone; it is a fight for all,” she appealed.
