LAGOS, Nigeria — The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) has secured a new ground handling agreement with FlyGabon and renewed several major airline contracts, positioning the company to significantly expand its cargo operations, including the export of solar cells to the United States.
The company confirmed the developments in a statement on Friday, highlighting the strategic importance of the new deals in strengthening its position as a leading aviation ground handling provider in Nigeria and across the continent. NAHCO’s Board Chairman, Dr. Seinde Fadeni, described the agreements as a testament to the company’s operational excellence and ability to meet international standards.
The FlyGabon contract marks NAHCO’s entry into the Central African market, expanding its footprint beyond its traditional West African base. The airline, which operates scheduled passenger and cargo services across the continent, has selected NAHCO to provide comprehensive ground handling services at Nigerian airports.
In addition to the FlyGabon deal, NAHCO has successfully renewed contracts with several major international airlines operating in Nigeria. The renewals underscore the company’s reputation for reliability, efficiency, and capacity to handle diverse cargo types, including specialised shipments.
A key highlight of the expansion is NAHCO’s growing role in the export of solar cells to the United States. The company has positioned itself as a critical logistics partner in the renewable energy supply chain, handling high-value cargo that requires specialised handling and documentation. The solar cell exports have been identified as a significant growth area for the company, contributing to its revenue diversification strategy.
NAHCO’s Managing Director/CEO, Yinka Savage, said the contracts reflect the confidence that international airlines and cargo operators have in the company’s service delivery. He noted that the company is investing in infrastructure, equipment, and personnel training to ensure it meets the growing demands of its clients.
The aviation ground handling sector in Nigeria has faced significant challenges in recent years, including foreign exchange volatility, high operational costs, and regulatory pressures. However, NAHCO has continued to demonstrate resilience, leveraging its extensive experience and network to secure new business opportunities.
The FlyGabon deal and contract renewals are expected to boost NAHCO’s revenue and enhance its capacity to contribute to Nigeria’s non-oil export sector. The company’s involvement in solar cell exports aligns with the global push for renewable energy and positions NAHCO as a key player in facilitating Nigeria’s participation in the green economy.
As the aviation industry continues to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, NAHCO’s latest achievements signal a positive trajectory for the company and the broader aviation handling sector in Nigeria. For now, the company remains focused on delivering value to its clients while expanding its operational capabilities to capture emerging opportunities in the cargo and logistics market.
