DDM News

Despite a state government-imposed ban on rallies, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was greeted by an ecstatic crowd in Kogi Central.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that on Tuesday, thousands of supporters gathered in the Ihima community in Okehi Local Government Area to celebrate her return.
Her homecoming came amid heightened political tensions and security restrictions imposed by the Kogi State Government.
Authorities had banned unauthorized political rallies and public gatherings, citing concerns over possible unrest.
Regardless of these restrictions, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s loyal supporters turned out in large numbers to show their unwavering solidarity.
People from all five local government areas under her senatorial district defied security warnings and converged at the venue.
By 8 a.m., the roads leading to Ihima were flooded with people eager to welcome their embattled senator.
The atmosphere was electric as local musicians performed, keeping the crowd entertained while they awaited her arrival.
In a dramatic show of defiance, Akpoti-Uduaghan made a grand entrance in a white helicopter.
As soon as the helicopter touched down, the crowd erupted into loud cheers and applause.
Her supporters, waving banners and chanting her name, signaled their full backing despite the political storm surrounding her.
Speaking to the crowd, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that she was not violating any law by returning to her hometown.
She dismissed the recall process against her, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of aiding her opponents.
“What I see INEC doing is aiding and guiding petitioners on how to perfect their illicit acts,” she declared.
She condemned efforts to stop her from visiting, asserting her right to be in her ancestral home.
“Nobody and nothing can stop me from coming home. I’m an Ebira woman; this is my land,” she stated.
She further referenced her family heritage, emphasizing her deep connection to Kogi Central and her political legitimacy.
“I am the daughter of the late Jimoh Abdul Akpoti. I know my roots. I’m not a bastard,” she said.
Her bold statements appeared directed at political figures trying to undermine her presence and influence in the state.
The Kogi State Government recently enforced a curfew and banned unauthorized rallies to prevent possible disruptions.
Security agencies had warned against public gatherings, citing intelligence reports of potential violence.
Despite this, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s homecoming rally defied the restrictions, further intensifying political tensions in the region.
Her supporters believe that the government’s actions were politically motivated and aimed at weakening her influence.
She has been at the center of multiple political controversies since her election to the Senate.
The senator’s ongoing battle with state and national authorities has fueled speculation about her future in politics.
Her suspension from the Senate, coupled with attempts to recall her, has heightened political divisions in Kogi State.
Despite these challenges, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s triumphant return signals her determination to fight for her political survival.
Her homecoming rally is expected to further escalate political rivalries ahead of future elections in Kogi State.
Security agencies continue monitoring the situation closely to prevent any potential escalation of unrest.
For now, the senator remains defiant, standing her ground against political adversaries seeking to silence her.
