ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 Oil and Gas Field Readiness Training Programme, a large-scale capacity-building initiative aimed at preparing young Nigerians for employment in the energy sector.
The programme is designed to bridge the skills gap in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry by providing intensive technical training, certification, and hands-on industrial exposure in collaboration with leading service companies.
Officials say the initiative targets more than 10,000 Nigerian youths and will focus on high-demand technical and engineering fields within the oil and gas value chain.
The training will combine classroom instruction, laboratory practice, fieldwork, and supervised industrial attachment to ensure participants gain real-world experience.
Training Areas Available
The programme covers several specialised and emerging fields, including:
Subsea Engineering
Underwater Welding Engineering
Drilling Engineering
Control and Automation Engineering
Marine Operations
Production and Maintenance Engineering
Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Engineering
Geoscience and Petroleum Engineering
Helicopter Piloting for offshore operations
Digital technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and drone applications in energy operations
Programme coordinators noted that the inclusion of digital technologies is aimed at aligning Nigeria’s oil and gas workforce with global industry transformation trends.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Be Nigerian citizens
Be below 35 years of age
Possess an OND, HND, or Bachelor’s degree
Hold qualifications in Engineering, Science, Technology, or related disciplines

Selected participants will receive:
Monthly stipends throughout the training period
Full hands-on technical training
Industry-recognised certifications
On-the-job industrial placement opportunities
Medical insurance coverage
Training equipment and safety protective gear
The programme is expected to run for two to three years, depending on the selected field and training pathway.
Industry experts say the initiative is part of broader efforts to increase local participation in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and reduce dependence on foreign technical labour.
The training will also expose participants to global best practices in energy production, offshore operations, and digital transformation in the petroleum industry.
