One person – a newly-wedded woman – has been confirmed dead as a building collapsed at Dosunmu bus stop in Kuata area, near Amara Olu Street, Mechanic Village, Agidingbi, Lagos.

The deceased was identified as Mrs. Faisa Mohammed, who wedded two weeks ago in Adamawa state.

Reports from the spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye said landslide was the cause of the building collapse.

He said that three persons, a male and two females, including Faisa, were trapped.

Faisa, 24, died while the other two persons trapped under the mud were rescued, the General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele, said in a report.

He explained that the agency received a distress call through the emergency toll free line 112/767 at about 10.54 a.m.

The corpse had been recovered, he said in the report.

The general manager explained that the area was a wetland and a buffer zone which was not habitable.

“The Lagos State Government has been sensitising people staying in flood-prone and wetlands to vacate such areas to avert loss of lives, especially during this rainy season,’’ Akindele said.

LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) which works 24 hours carried out the rescue operation with back-up from the police, officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
