As this report is being read, undertakers may be lowering their bodies into the ground.

They may have already completed their solemn task, leaving families, friends, and well-wishers to mourn an unimaginable loss.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that Dozie Okoye, a Zenith Bank staff at Ladipo Oluwole branch in Ikeja, Lagos, and Joan Gusiora, his wife, are gone.

Joan was a nurse with a promising career in the United States before tragedy struck.

Their remains would now rest in the earth, marking the final chapter of their journey.

Exactly a month ago, on Saturday, February 22, they were the center of attention at Momoh Gardens, Lekki Phase 1.

Their wedding reception took place there after exchanging vows at Saint Jude’s Anglican Church, Omole Phase 1, Ikeja.

Friends, family, and well-wishers had gathered to celebrate their union, filled with joy and excitement.

No one imagined that, just weeks later, they would be mourning the young couple’s tragic passing.

This Saturday, March 22, a sorrowful gathering will take place at the Okoye family compound in Agulu Village, Anambra State.

It will be the day their bodies are laid to rest, bringing an end to their tragic journey.

Joan, who was set to return to her U.S. duty post last Friday, had plans to visit her father’s home.

She would have briefly stopped at Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government, before departing.

The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain painful and shocking to everyone who knew them.

Only the deceased could have given a full account of what transpired on that fateful day.

However, family members and friends have pieced together events leading to their untimely demise.

Reports indicate that they were among the four victims of the Otedola Bridge gas explosion on March 11.

They were returning home when tragedy struck, catching them completely off guard.

Their car was directly behind the tanker that exploded, leaving them with no chance of escape.

The inferno engulfed their vehicle in seconds, making survival impossible.

Otedola Bridge, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has witnessed multiple tanker explosions over the years.

These incidents have resulted in devastating consequences, with countless lives lost.

Their sudden disappearance raised alarm when their phones became unreachable.

Friends and family grew increasingly worried when Dozie failed to report to work the next morning.

His punctuality was well known, making his absence even more suspicious.

Efforts to reach him proved futile, prompting his colleagues to contact his relatives.

When no answers came, the search intensified, focusing on the tanker explosion from the previous day.

Investigators eventually traced their burnt vehicle at the accident scene, confirming their worst fears.

The first breakthrough came when their car was identified through its registration number.

Further investigations led to the heartbreaking discovery of their charred bodies.

Their remains were eventually found at the Burns Center in Gbagada and later moved to Yaba Mortuary.

Frantic efforts to locate them had lasted several days before their fate was confirmed on February 25.

A family member shared insight into their last known activities before the tragedy.

“Joan was supposed to return to the U.S. last Friday,” the relative revealed.

“I don’t have many details, but Dozie resumed work that Tuesday after his wedding,” he added.

“Joan left her father’s house around 4:00 PM to meet Dozie after work,” the source explained.

“That was the last time anyone heard from them.”

“When Dozie didn’t show up at work the next morning, his colleagues became worried.”

“He was always punctual, so they started calling his phone, but there was no response.”

“They contacted his relatives, but nobody had any information,” the family member continued.

“With news of the previous day’s tanker explosion, they decided to check the accident scene.”

“That was where they found his burnt car,” he concluded.

Expectedly, grief has engulfed their families, friends, and associates.

Many are struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking reality.

Their parents remain inconsolable, unable to fathom the depth of their loss.

Friends have taken to social media to express their anguish and sorrow.

One of them, MC the Young, wrote about the painful loss.

“My classmate, whose wedding I attended just three weeks ago, died in a gas explosion,” he lamented.

“Joan, those responsible for this tragedy will never know peace,” he continued.

“My heart is heavy. You were supposed to return to the U.S. on Friday.”

Another friend, Nelly Kelly, expressed her shock and disbelief.

“A tanker explosion at Otedola Bridge took a vibrant soul from us,” she wrote.

“Dozie resumed work just yesterday after his wedding,” she added.

“That same day, he and his wife left us forever? This is painful.”

The tragic incident highlights the unpredictability of life.

Dotun Oladipo, a seasoned journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, narrowly escaped the same fate.

He and his family were headed in the same direction but diverted onto another route minutes before the explosion.

However, his mechanic, Rotimi Adeleye, was not as fortunate.

Having just fixed Oladipo’s car, he was caught in the explosion before he could escape.

Devastated, Oladipo could only pray for the souls of the victims.

For the families of Dozie and Joan, no amount of prayers or condolences can ease their pain.

Their dreams were cut short, and their love story ended in the most painful manner.

The tragedy serves as another painful reminder of the dangers on Nigeria’s roads.

Tanker explosions have claimed countless lives, leaving devastation in their wake.

As Dozie and Joan are laid to rest, their families must now face a future without them.

Their love story, which began with so much promise, has ended in unimaginable heartbreak.

Tragic!
