NFF in crucial meeting over Dikko, Abubakar police dilema
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership, was yesterday locked in a crisis meeting. This follow the move by security operatives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to arrest the chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), Shehu Dikko.
The Chairman, Dikko narrowly escaped arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Sunday night. There was an attempt to whisk him away, immediately he returned from Zambia where the Super Eagles defeated their Zambian counterparts in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
It was learnt that the policemen were determined to whisk Dikko away but for the intervention of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung who pleaded with them to let him go with a firm promise that he will honour the invitation yesterday. According to Vanguard.
A reliable source at the NFF secretariat who confided in Sports Vanguard revealed that the meeting which took place at an unknown venue deliberated on how to end the incessant harassment of Dikko and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the LMC, Salihu Abubakar by security operatives.
The duo are said to have been having a rat race with some security agents after the order of a Jos High Court which ordered the LMC to incorporate Giwa FC in the just concluded 2015/16 Nigeria Premier league. The league body had deregistered Giwa FC from the league for falling to honour three league matches when they were banished to Ilorin by the LMC after a crowd violence in a home game that involved eventual league winners, Rangers International of Enugu.
