Prominent Niger Delta monarchs have recently raised alarms over escalating tensions in Rivers State.

Specifically, they urge President Bola Tinubu to intervene in FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s controversial actions.

Among them, HRM King Dodo II of Bilabiri Kingdom and HRH King-Jerry Prebor of Meinbutus Federal Communities warned of instability risks.

Therefore, they have called for decisive actions to restore peace and ensure stability in this oil-rich region.

Furthermore, the monarchs’ appeal follows the bombing of the Trans-Niger pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State. This incident has significantly heightened tensions in the region, highlighting the fragile security situation in the Niger Delta.

Consequently, this region remains vital to Nigeria’s oil output and economic stability, demanding urgent intervention to avert worsening crises.

Speaking to reporters by phone, King-Jerry Prebor condemned Wike’s conduct, stressing its risks to both regional peace and Tinubu’s governance.

He asserted, “President Tinubu, Wike’s employer, must dismiss him or impose order immediately before tensions escalate irreversibly.”

” This urgent plea reflects the growing anxiety among the traditional leaders.

The monarch emphasized the need for swift and decisive intervention to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Similarly, HRM King Dodo II highlighted the urgency of addressing the situation in Rivers State, urging President Tinubu to take a firm stance.

“On the present situation in the Niger Delta, particularly Rivers State, the president should call his minister to order.

The president should take the matter of Rivers State as a serious issue and act fast on it.

He should not become the enemy of the Rivers people because of Wike’s selfish desire,” King Dodo II remarked.

The monarchs’ statements reflect growing discontent among stakeholders in the Niger Delta over what they perceive as Wike’s divisive approach to governance and political aspirations.

According to reports, Wike’s alleged focus on personal ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections has created friction within the region, raising concerns about its potential impact on stability and development.

The Niger Delta, home to Nigeria’s vast oil reserves, has long been a hotspot for political and social unrest. Issues such as environmental degradation, resource control disputes, and inadequate infrastructure have fueled grievances among local communities.

Following the recent attack on the Trans-Niger pipeline, authorities must proactively address underlying challenges and promote regional peace.

President Tinubu now faces a delicate balancing act. While prioritizing national unity and economic growth, he must tackle Niger Delta tensions through nuanced strategies.

Calls from King Dodo II and King-Jerry Prebor stress that officials must serve constituents’ needs, emphasizing dialogue as critical.

Consequently, Tinubu’s response will define his leadership credibility and set governance standards in Nigeria’s vital economic region.
