Voters flee as thugs destroy electoral materials in Kogi

Voters in Ogege road, Odaba Polling Unit in Dekina Ward have fled from the voting arena following the activities of political thugs who came in large numbers to destroy voting materials.

The thugs who appeared with machetes and guns snatched ballot boxes, broke chairs and dispersed voters.

As of the time of filing this report, voters and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission have dispersed.

No polling unit has received election materials as at 11:20 am at Geregu Ward, Ajaokuta LGA, in Kogi State.

Osinbajo, wife cast vote in Ikenne

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo, have cast their votes in the presidential election holding across the country.

The vice president and his wife, both from Ikenne, voted at Polling Unit 14, Egunrege, Ikenne Local Government Area.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arrived at the polling unit as early as 7:15 am while accreditation of voters and voting commenced at 8:35am.

Osinbajo and wife arrived at the unit at 9:54a.m; got successfully verified by the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at 9:58 a.m. and voted at 10am.

Speaking with newsmen shortly voting, Osinbajo said he was impressed with the conduct of the exercise at the unit.

He expressed optimism that the orderly conduct at the unit would be replicated across the country.

No fewer than 133 voters are expected to exercise their franchise at the polling unit.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu casts his vote in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar casts his vote in Adamawa State. He exercised his franchise at Ajiya 02, in Gwadabawa Ward, Yola North Local Government of Adamawa.

Speaking after performing his civic duty, the former vice president expressed optimism that the process will be hassle-free for voters.

He said the process was simple and straightforward and that he cast his vote without ambiguity.

Furthermore, Atiku expressed optimism of succeeding President Buhari.

Reports show that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are present as at 8:30am at various polling units and waiting for voting to commence.

Nigerians will today, February 25, 2023, troop out to elect a new president to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari who tenure expires on May 29, 2023.

One of the four major contestants, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Onwubuasi Obi (South, Christian), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (North, Muslim), the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu (South, Muslim), and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (North, Muslim), is expected to emerge the winner.

As indicated, out of the four, two are from the southern part of the country, while two are from the northern part.

Also as indicated, three out of the four are Muslims, while just one is a Christian.

Out 0f the four, three are former Governors — Tinubu, Lagos; Obi, Anambra and Kwankwaso, Kano — while Abubakar was a former Vice President.
