Nigeria Marks Armed Forces Remembrance Day with Honors and Pledges
Nigeria observed the Armed Forces Remembrance Day with solemn ceremonies, prayers, gun salutes, and wreath-laying ceremonies to honor fallen heroes. Led by President Bola Tinubu, the wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Abuja was a central event, attended by services chiefs, heads of security agencies, and dignitaries.
In Abuja, the Chief of Defence Staff Gen Christopher Musa led all services chiefs, joining the ceremony that included prayers and gun salutes at the National Arcade, Eagle Square. President Tinubu participated in the wreath-laying ceremony, joined by members of the Federal Executive Council, diplomats, and other dignitaries.
Across the country, state governors and dignitaries paid tribute to fallen heroes. In Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani led the wreath-laying ceremony at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. Similar events took place in Taraba State, where Governor Kefas Agbu honored fallen heroes at the Jolly Nyame stadium in Jalingo. Governor Godwin Obaseki inspected a guard of honor at the cenotaph in Benin City.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio assured better welfare for the military, emphasizing lawmakers’ commitment to supporting the country’s armed forces. In Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu laid wreaths at the Tafawa Balewa Square. Political figures, including Peter Obi, recognized the sacrifices of military men and women in ensuring peace and security.
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, praised the military’s sacrifices and encouraged them to remain resolute in facing Nigeria’s security challenges. On Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the nation honors fallen heroes and expresses gratitude for the dedication and courage of its armed forces.
