A tragic incident occurred this morning during the Nigerian Army Bi-Annual Route March near Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State, resulting in the death of a soldier and injuries to several others.
The event, part of a training exercise aimed at enhancing operational readiness within the Nigerian Army (NA), involved various formations across Lagos State.
According to a statement from Lieutenant Colonel OLABISI OLALEKAN AYENI, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, a private vehicle recklessly collided with the troops participating in the march.
The accident led to the immediate death of one soldier, whose body has been transferred to the mortuary.
Several soldiers sustained varying injuries and currently receive medical care at the 68 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Yaba.
Following the incident, the 81 Division Military Police launched a thorough investigation with other security agencies to uncover details.
Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, expressed deep condolences to the deceased soldier’s family.
In addition, he wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery during this difficult time, emphasizing the importance of support.
Moreover, General Mijinyawa called on the public to remain calm while the investigation progresses into the crash incident.
He reassured citizens that the Division’s training and operational readiness remain unaffected by this tragedy, maintaining their commitment.
