The Nigerian Army on Tuesday set up a high powered Board of Inquiry (BOI) to investigate alleged malpractices and involvement of its personnel in Ekiti and Osun states in 2014 gubernatorial elections.

This is contained in a statement issued by Col. Sani Usman, the acting Director, Army Public Relations in Abuja.

The statement quoted Usman as saying the BOI was to investigate alleged unprofessional and unethical conduct of some Nigerian Army personnel in Ekiti and Osun states in 2014 gubernatorial elections, among other things.

He stated that the BOI would also investigate cases in other states where allegations of misconduct were made during the 2015 general elections in the country.

He said that “as part of its Terms of Reference, the BOI is also to review the involvement of the Nigerian Army formations/units and its personnel in elections and other duties in aid to civil authority.

“The essence of the investigation is to prevent future unprofessional conduct by officers and men in the performance of constitutional roles.
