Former Super Eagles winger, Okwuchukwu “Allen” Waobikeze, has passed away, leaving the Nigerian football community in mourning.
Waobikeze, affectionately known as “Babaoo” by fans and teammates, died peacefully on July 14, 2025, at approximately 7:34 pm Central Standard Time in the United States, where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness .
Waobikeze was a celebrated left-footed forward who played for top clubs in the Nigeria Premier League, including Sharks FC of Port Harcourt.
He showcased his impressive skills on the football field, earning admiration from fans and teammates alike.
Waobikeze’s talent and dedication earned him a spot in the Nigerian national team, where he made limited appearances due to stiff competition.
His contributions to his former clubs helped shape his legacy as a skilled and talented player.
Waobikeze’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes and condolences from fans, fellow players, and the football community.
His brother, Eli Waobikeze, confirmed the news on Facebook, expressing gratitude for those who supported Okwuchukwu during his life and announcing that funeral arrangements would be shared soon .

Waobikeze’s passing comes just days after the death of another Nigerian football legend, former Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper Peter Rufai.
