The Nigeria Police Force has suspended Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Lafia Abduyari, effective January 9, 2025.

The suspension was approved by the Police Service Commission (POLSCOM) and communicated in a letter dated January 9, 2025.

According to a wireless message sighted by Diaspora Digital Media, addressed to all departments, units, and commands, signed by the Force Secretary, AIG Lafia has been directed to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations governing the conduct of police officers on suspension.

His salary has also been halted pending the determination of his case by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC).

The suspension order, titled “Suspension and Interdiction AP. NO. 41804 AIG Abduyari Shuaya’u Lafia,” cited the decision of the POLSCOM and was made in accordance with PSR 100406, 2021 as amended.

The order was communicated to all relevant departments, units, and commands within the force.

AIG Lafia assumed office as the AIG in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau, Force Headquarters, Abuja, in February 2023.

Prior to his suspension, he was responsible for overseeing the intelligence gathering and investigative activities of the force.

The Nigerian Police Force has not disclosed the reasons behind AIG Lafia’s suspension, but an investigation is reportedly underway.

The Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) will review the case and make recommendations for further action.

The suspension of AIG Lafia is a significant development within the Nigerian Police Force, and it remains to be seen how the investigation and disciplinary proceedings will unfold.
