Nigerian singer Tems wins second Grammy Award

In a night filled with excitement and celebration, Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems added another feather to her cap, winning her second Grammy Award.

She won the Best African Music Performance category for her hit single “Love Me JeJe” at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards ongoing in the United States.

Tems’ acceptance speech was a heartfelt and emotional tribute to her team, family, and God.

She expressed her gratitude to her mother, whose birthday is tomorrow, saying, “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammy’s, and I just want to thank you, mum, because she’s really done a lot for me and my brother.”

She also thanked her team, saying, “I want to thank my team, thank you so much. To God be the glory because honestly, He’s changed my life so much.”

This win is her second Grammy Award, following her first win in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance with Future’s “Wait For You” featuring Drake at the 65th Annual Grammys.

With eight nominations this year, Tems has solidified her position as one of the most talented and versatile artists in the music industry.

Born Temilade Openiyi on June 11, 1995, Tems rose to prominence with her unique voice and style, which blends Afrobeats, R&B, and hip-hop.

Tems’ music career began to take shape after she quit her job as a digital marketer in 2018.

She started releasing her own music, including her debut single “Mr Rebel” and her debut EP “For Broken Ears” in 2020.

Her breakthrough came when she was featured on Wizkid’s hit single “Essence,” which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Since then, Tems has become a global sensation, collaborating with top artists like Drake, Future, and Rihanna.

She’s also won numerous awards, which now includes two Grammy Awards, a Billboard Women in Music Award, several NAACP Awards and BET Awards.

With her debut studio album “Born in the Wild” released in 2024, Tems continues to push boundaries and inspire fans around the world with her unique sound and style.
