Nigerians can buy solar systems, through CREDICORP – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said Nigerians can access consumer credit through the Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) to purchase solar systems, vehicles, digital devices and other essential assets.

Tinubu made the statement in his Independence Day address on Thursday as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary.

He said the initiative was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to support Nigerians facing economic difficulties while creating opportunities for increased productivity and economic growth.

“It is why CREDICORP is giving working Nigerians access to consumer credit, allowing people to acquire vehicles, solar systems, digital devices and other essential assets without first having to accumulate years of savings,” Tinubu said.

The President also highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying the programme was helping students from low-income families access higher education despite difficulties with tuition payments.

He said the government was also strengthening direct support for poorer households through an improved National Social Register to ensure assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries.

“These programmes are not substitutes for prosperity. They are a bridge to aid our nation’s citizens on their path towards it,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu said the government’s broader economic strategy was focused on reducing the cost of living by lowering the cost of producing and transporting goods.

He listed investments in agriculture, mechanisation, irrigation, storage, roads, railways and ports as measures aimed at improving productivity and reducing costs.

The President added that his administration would prioritise job creation, enterprise development and industrial growth while expanding digital connectivity and access to finance.

He said the long-term goal was to build an economy capable of reducing poverty and creating productive opportunities for Nigerians.
